How Kind Allen Carr was-Thank You

by

What a legacy Allen Carr has left us! What a wonderful feeling to KNOW that I have finally kicked the awful life of a smoker after 30 years.

It’s almost 3 months now but I knew the moment I put out that final cigarette that it was my final one and I don’t miss them one bit. I think I could have given Allen ‘a run for his money’ on the worst addicted smoker – I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2008

- caught on time thank goodness and did give up smoking for the surgery but tried ‘just one’ when I thought I needed ‘that crutch’

when the chemo started and we all know where ‘just one’ gets us and in no time at all I was back smoking 20 a day while on chemo & loosing my hair. I though, until I read Allen Carr that there was something wrong with me and clinged to the fact that the surgeon said that they could not confirm a definite like between smoking / lifestyle and breast cancer. How kind he is to smokers and how bind I was. My final test was dinner with my smoking friends in one of their homes last week and the first thing I said was that I don’t mind if they smoke (smokers are persecuted enough) and I passed this test with flying colours – although I did need to take a few breaths of fresh air I enjoyed the night for the company and the cigarettes did not bother me at all. In fact they really wanted to know more about giving up. It’s like as if I know Allen from his Easyway books and I am finally loosing the extra weight too.

If I had to describe the feeling it would be like as if Allen had put his arm into a raging river and pulled me out.

I wish he was still with us to thank him and I know he added very valuable quality years to his own life when he gave up. I feel my life is taking a huge turn for the better in many other ways too but stopping smoking was definitely the starting point.

Also, just to let you know that Allen Carr’s Easyway books are now being recommended by the HSE hospital stop smoking service. That is how I heard of him in the first place.

 Thank You Allen
